ANNOUNCEMENTS

Who served in the military?

In 1966, somewhat unwillingly, I enlisted in the army to train as a helicopter pilot. I vividly recall lacing up my boots one morning in basic training and thinking, "I don't believe I'm gonna have to do this for another three years!" Turns out I wound up lacing them up for another twenty. Once through basic I found my calling and decided to make it a career. But I don't know who among you also served in the military.  If you served in the active military, reserves, or national guard, would you post a short note about which service you were in and what you did?

As I said, I trained as an army helicopter pilot and served 18 months in Vietnam, accumulating over 1500 combat hours. After 'Nam I served at various posts and in various positions, including a stint as an instructor pilot at the Army Aviation Center. I also spent a year as an observer with the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization in Israel, Lebanon and Syria. I retired in 1986 as executive officer of an air cavalry squadron in the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft Bragg (now Ft Liberty) North Carolina.

Now how about the rest of you.
